YORK & DISTRICT SAA
YORK & DISTRICT SAA This Society was set up some years ago by a group of local artists as a regional section of the SAA, but it now has its own individual character. The Society operates in the areas around the City of York, mostly in the County of North Yorkshire, and has a current membership of almost 100. All of our meetings are workshops, led by accomplished artists, and members gain much useful guidance and experience on the day, to use in their future work. A unique feature of our workshop days is the feast of home-produced and delicious food, provided by members, which adds to the social occasion. We also hold exhibitions during the year. New members are invited to join us. For more information, please send an email via this website to membership secretary YDSAA, and we will pass on your enquiry. Note: for * please insert @ - we do this to stop web scanners from seeking out any addresses including @ and adding them to spammers’ directories!
PROGRAMME 2007
YORK AND DISTRICT SOCIETY FOR ALL ARTISTS PROGRAMME Workshops will start at the specified time. Members are asked to arrive early so that they can set up their tables ready for the starting time. She runs residential courses in Sandsend and non-residential ones in Great Broughton. Her main forte is pastel work. This is Sue’s first visit to the Society and it is hoped that members will make her feel welcome.

His exuberant personality is reflected in his paintings, which have lightness and simplicity, to which many of us aspire. This will be Charles’ second visit to the Society and this time he hopes to use the historic Tithe Barn, which is our venue for the day, as inspiration for this workshop, weather permitting! 5 May: Outdoor Painting: Mike Dobson Markenfield Hall, Ripon: any medium, but preferably watercolour (Outdoor Workshop) 10.00 – 16.00: Fee £10.00 Mike Dobson, our Treasurer, is a very accomplished watercolourist and has tutored for us on many occasions. Mike gives clear demonstrations and good one-to-one help during his sessions. He has a quirky sense of humour and succeeds in giving confidence to the less assured. NB. For the Markenfield Hall day, course participants should bring their own lunches, but coffee will be provided. If it rains, the course will still be `on’, as there are many alcoves, archways and cubbyholes in the courtyard, so painters can shelter, hide and still see the views! - 19 May: Watercolours: Ash Buckingham Brayton Community Centre, Windmills, Demo/paintalong) 10.00-16.00 Fee £15.00 Ash Buckingham is an extremely popular tutor who travels the country from his home in Horncastle, running workshops and painting holidays. His courses are always over-subscribed. For this workshop Ash will concentrate on the theme of `Windmills’, so it may be useful to bring along any images you have to help you with proportion, colour and shape. 29 May-1 June: Painting in the Lakes: John Sibson Holiday break at Higham Hall, Lake District : Watercolours: (Demo/instruction) 18.00 29 May – 14.00 1 June; Fee £200.00.
